S8 Ep07 The Nothnagle Log Home, A National Historic Landmark

The Nothnagle Log Home is an historic log cabin located near the Nehaunsey Creek in Gibbstown, Gloucester County, New Jersey. The cabin was built by Finnish settlers in the mid 17th century using tongue and groove construction without the use of any nails. It is considered to be one of the oldest log cabins of its type in its original location in the United States. In addition to its early Finnish residents, the Nothnagle Cabin has served as a home for tenant farmers, a butcher shop, smoke house and a dairy business.

Over the past fifty years, the cabin, along with its’ adjoining 18th century house, has been owned by Doris Rink and her late husband, Harry. The Rink’s have given the cabin much love and care throughout the years and took great pleasure in sharing the cabin’s history with thousands of visitors.

In this episode of Your History Your Story, we will be speaking with Doris Rink who will be sharing the history of the Nothnagle Cabin, the people who built it and some curious and historic finds discovered by Doris and her husband.

The Nothnagle Log House is listed on both the National and New Jersey State Historic Registers.
